Commission 2018 for NL Suits, an upscale custom suit store in Milwaukee’s Third Ward. This client’s family migrated from Ethiopia where his mother began her sewing career. Lundberg was tasked with incorporating an image of his mother in her sewing studio. Lundberg added details of historic Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Djiboutian architecture, native birds found in the horn of Africa (there are many exclusive bird species to the Horn of Africa) and Parisian street lights, as my client went to fashion school in Paris. This painting highlights the client’s mother by placing her in the center of the painting, sewing golden fabric which flows to the bottom of the painting.
