Flying East

Flying East, 48x60”, 2022

This client recently passed their pilot exam and celebrated by commissioning a piece based on their Cessna aircraft. This client asked for a morning cockpit scene with the Georgia mountains below. Lundberg added small vertical strings of dancing white dots to represent the awaking energy of people below. A Morse code message is hidden within the cockpit that reads,

“once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you will always long to return”

The top right corner of this painting depicts a dramatic sunrise and sun flare and the mountaintops below are delicately highlighted in gold. Lundberg strived to capture the magical moment of stillness of the when the sun breaks through at dawn.
